As with many artists, this year for me has been spent house-bound and land-locked. My response has been to assemble images of water for South End Open Studios. In capturing its many forms in disparate places – ponds, oceans, abandoned quarries – I share my feelings of wonder and excitement.

Growing up in New York City near the bay that flows into the Atlantic, I observed tides, waves, weather and winds churning the water’s surface. Enchanted by its role as a mirror – of the sky, people, clouds, buildings, sunrises – I focused many of my images on reflections. Other of my images are of ponds and streams in the Boston area, of fog, an abandoned quarry in Vermont – now water-filled, of the north coast of Maine, the Pacific coast, a Koi pond in Japan. The two pieces shown here are of a tree in fog and a fantastic rock formation on the Pacific coast.
