A struggle for perspective–what does that mean?
What is in the foreground, important to focus on?
What should fade from view, vanishing as it recedes?
Most of all, how do I take a personal point of view, representing a landscape, a space, a person, emotions or social conditions in the world?
As an architect, I worked hard to create space that is beautifully shaped and comfortably perceived from various vantage points.
Responding to my years of creating affordable housing for homeless families, I created a series called “Caryatids: Strong Women” — a sculptured body of work that is a metaphor for the inspiring women who I have seen juggle to support themselves, their families and their communities.
And now, in these dark times, I am struggling to find a new perspective, employing different materials in a personal quest for reflection and light in the world—and using beauty, and color to give me clarity and hope.
