I do relatively large acrylic paintings on canvas of found beach objects placed or glued onto small, prepared panels, such as the two 12” X 12” X 3/4” works you see here: “Star of Wonder” and “Quartet.” After moving the objects around until I am satisfied with the composition, I use both panel (or panels glued or placed together) and objects as a preliminary model or sketch for a painting. In the painting, this solid, square or rectangular panel and the arranged objects it displays float in mostly undefined space. (To see an image of a recent painting, google Aileen O. Erickson, Boston Center for the Arts.) Both models and paintings tend to focus on the search for personal balance and resolution in an often chaotic world.
